## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT WAS FLYING THE QUICKSILVER MXL II FOR RECREATIONAL PURPOSES OVER AN AGRICULTURAL AREA NEAR HIS PROPERTY AND NEARBY GRASS STRIP. PILOT STATED THAT THE WEATHER WAS 70 DEG F, WIND CALM. AT AN ALTITUDE OF APPROX. 30 FT AGL, HE MADE A SNAP DECISION TO LAND. AS HE REDUCED THE POWER TO IDLE, HE MADE A TURN TO THE RIGHT. THE AIRCRAFT ENTERED AN UNCOMMANDED VERY STEEP BANK TO THE RIGHT. PILOT APPLIED POWER AND TRIED TO CORRECT BUT WAS TOO CLOSE TO THE GROUND. HE AGAIN REDUCED POWER TO IDLE TO MINIMIZE THE VELOCITY OF IMPACT WITH THE GROUND. THE AIRCRAFT IMPACTED THE GROUND AT A VERY STEEP ANGLE IN A NOSE-DOWN ATTITUDE IN A SLIGHT RIGHT WING DOWN POSITION. THE NOSE WHEEL AND STRUCTURAL TUBING COLLAPSED CAUSING THE PILOTS FEET TO ABSORB THE MAJORITY OF IMPACT FORCE RESULTING IN SIGNIFICANT INJURY. THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED STRUCTURAL DAMAGE TO THE TUBING, NOSE WHEEL LANDING GEAR, PROPELLER, AND RUDDER PEDAL ASSEMBLY.THE AIRCRAFT DID NOT MEET THE REQUIREMENTS OF 14 CFR PART 103 AND WAS NOT REGISTERED.

## NTSB investigation

None matched to this report by aircraft and date. Search the NTSB's own records: https://data.ntsb.gov/carol-main-public/basic-search

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
