## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

DURING EMERGENCY (SIMULATED) ENGINE OUT LANDINGS AND HAVING ALREADY PERFORMED THREE WITHOUT INCIDENT. FURTHER INVESTIGATION REVEALS THE STUDENT MAY HAVE BECOME SOMEWHAT DISORIENTED AND WAS HAVING TROUBLE JUDGING BASE TURNS ON DOWNWIND MANEUVERS. THE PILOT AFTER INSTRUCTION INITIATED ANOTHER FAILED ENGINE, THE STUDENT THEN ESTABLISHED THE BEST GLIDE SPEED AND WHILE CALLING OUT THE MEMORY ITEMS DID NOT ENSURE THAT THE LANDING GEAR WAS DOWN AND MAY HAVE INADVERTENTLY PLACED THE GEAR HANDLE IN THE UP POSITION INSTEAD OF THE FLAPS BUT COULDN'T BE SURE. THE PIC FINALLY TOOK CONTROL JUST BEFORE THE 1000 FT MARKERS; NEITHER CREW MEMBERS HEARD THE GEAR WARNING HORN AS STATED. THE SPEED AT TOUCHDOWN WAS SLOW AND THE PLANE SLID APPROXIMATELY 150-200 FEET FROM CENTER TO REST, CAUSING MINOR DAMAGE TO THE UNDER FUSELAGE AND MINOR TO MODERATE DAMAGE TO THE NOSE GEAR DOORS AND FLAPS. THE AIRCRAFT WAS INSPECTED AND REPAIRED AS REQUIRED & A FERRY PERMIT WAS REQUESTED TO TRANSPORT THE AIRCRAFT BACK TO BASE.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
