## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

MAY 17, 2011, A MEXICAN REGISTERED LUSCOMBE 8A PILOTED BY A MEXICAN NATIONAL, THAT HOLDS A U.S. PILOT CERTIFICATE, ATTEMPTED TO TAKE OFF FROM MID WAY OF THE RUNWAY WITH A QUARTERING TAIL WIND AND CRASHED INTO A TREE AT THE NORTH END OF RUNWAY 35 AND WAS LODGED IN A FORK IN THE TREE. THE PILOT RECEIVED MINOR INJURIES THAT REQUIRED STITCHES. THE PASSENGER WAS NOT INJURED. THERE WAS NO POST FIRE.MAY 18, 2011, THE PILOT TOLD THIS INSPECTOR, FAA IIC, THAT HE WAS TAKING OFF BUT THE AIRCRAFT WAS NOT ACCELERATING AS FAST AS IT SHOULD. HE ALSO SAID IT WAS NOT A MECHANICAL PROBLEM.DURING THE INVESTIGATION IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE ENGINE WAS MAKING POWER DUE TO SEVERAL CUT BRANCHES FOUND AFT OF THE AIRCRAFT.MAY 25, 2011, THE PILOT ADMITTED TO MAKING A MISTAKE BY NOT CHECKING THE WIND CONDITIONS AT THE TIME PRIOR TO TAKEOFF. HE SAW THE WIND SOCK UPON HIS ARRIVAL AT THE AIRPARK AND CLAIMS IT WAS FAVORABLE FOR RUNWAY 35. HE ADMITTED TO STALLING THE AIRCRAFT INTO THE TREES RATHER THEN FLYING INTO THE TRUNKS OF THE TREES OR HOUSES NORTH OF THE RUNWAY. NOTE: ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ SURRENDERED HIS U.S. PILOT CERTIFICATE DURING THE POST ACCIDENT INTERVIEW.

## NTSB investigation

None matched to this report by aircraft and date. Search the NTSB's own records: https://data.ntsb.gov/carol-main-public/basic-search

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
