## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON 21 MAY 2011, A PIPER PA-30, REGISTRATION # N7248Y, WAS TAKING OFF ON RUNWAY 21 AT PHILLIPSBURG AIRPORT (3I7) IN PHILLIPSBURG, OHIO. ACCORDING TO THE PILOT, HE WAS HEADED OUT TO PERFORM PATTERN WORK AND DURING TAKE-OFF, AS THE AIRCRAFT ROTATED AT APPROXIMATELY 85-90 MPH, A SUSPECTED LOSS OF POWER WAS EXPERIENCED FROM THE LEFT ENGINE AND THE AIRCRAFT YAWED HARD TO THE LEFT. THE AIRCRAFT DEPARTED THE LEFT SIDE OF THE RUNWAY INTO THE GRASS, LOST CONTROL AND CRASHED INTO A WOODED AREA. THE PILOT, ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ WAS THE SOLE OCCUPANT AND SUFFERED A LACERATION TO HIS FOREHEAD AND BRUISED HIS LEFT ARM. THE AIRCRAFT WAS DESTROYED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN11LA364](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN11LA364), May 21, 2011: Piper PA30 (N7248Y), Phillipsburg, OH, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s failure to maintain directional control during takeoff following a loss of left engine power for undetermined reasons.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
