## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE PILOT WAS PULLING UP AFTER MAKING A PASS ON A FIELD. THE ENGINE STARTED TO LOOSE POWER. A LOAD BANG AND WHITE SMOKE WAS SEEN COMING FROM TH BACK OF THE ENGINE. THE PILOT CHECKED THE MIXTURE CONTROL, THROTTLE AND MAGS. HE MANEUVERED TO MAKE A EMERGENCY LANDING IN A PASTURE. AFTER TOUCH DOWN, THE RIGHT WING HIT A SMALL BUSH AND TURNED TO THE RIGHT. THE LEFT MAIN GEAR LEG HIT A DITCH AND FOLDED BACK. THE TAIL WHEEL WAS SHEERED OFF. THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST FACING THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION OF FLIGHT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR11LA238](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR11LA238), May 28, 2011: Grumman G-164A (N9724), Hazelton, ID, substantial damage. Probable cause: A total loss of engine power during low-level maneuvering due to an excessively worn carburetor.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
