## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT HAD JUST DEPARTED SUX AIRPORT AND WAS CLIMBING OUT NORTHWEST BOUND, WHEN HE CALLED THE TOWER AND ADVISED HE WAS RETURNING FOR LANDING, DUE TO ROUGH RUNNING ENGINE. AIRCRAFT WAS CLEARED FOR STRAIGHT-IN APPROACH TO RUNWAY 13. PILOT THEN CALLED AND ADVISED HE WOULD PROBABLY "DEAD STICK" THE LANDING. AIRCRAFT LANDED SHORT OF RUNWAY 13, CAUSING SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE. THERE WAS NO INJURY. PILOT'S STATEMENT ON 06/14/2011 INDICATED PILOT HAD NOT GOTTEN THE GASCOLATOR GASKET SEATED PROPERLY DURING THE CONDITION INSPECTION. THIS HAD CAUSED THE GASKET TO PARTIALLY SLIP INTO THE BOWL, AND THE ENGINE SUCKED AIR INTO THE SYSTEM AND QUIT. PILOT WAS COUNSELED BY AIRWORHTINESS INSPECTOR REGARDING PILOT'S STATEMENT ABOUT INSTALLATION OF GASCOLATOR GASKET.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN11LA367](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN11LA367), May 30, 2011: Jones Cozy Mark IV (N204TJ), Sioux City, IA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's improper installation of the gascolator gasket during the airplane's last condition inspection, which resulted in a partial loss of engine power while maneuvering.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
