## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

N6980W WAS FLYING FROM 42I TO KPHD PILOTED BY ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^. PILOT CALLED FOR AN AIRPORT ADVISORY AND THERE WAS NO RESPONSE. ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ CIRCLED OVER THE FIELD THE WINDSOCK WAS LIMP AND HE DECIDED TO LAND ON RUNWAY 14. HE STATED THAT HE THOUGHT HE WAS HIGH ON THE APPROACH BUT HIS AISPEED WAS NORMAL THOUGHOUT THE APPROACH. DURING THE FLARE THE WIND PICKED UP FROM WHAT HE THOUGHT WAS A QUARTERING TAILWIND BUT COULD NOT STATE FROM A DEFINATE DIRECTION. THIS CAUSED THE AIRCRAFT TO FLOAT AND LAND FURTHER DOWN THE RUNWAY THAN EXPECTED. ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ STATED THAT HE FELT WITH THE RUNWAY HE HAD LEFT AND HIS AIRSPEED HE DID NOT THINK A GO AROUND WOULD BE A SAFE OPTION. HE THOUGHT HE MIGHT HIT THE HOUSES AT THE END. ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ ELECTED TO STEER TOWARD AN OPEN FIELD TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF RUNWAY 14. THE AIRCRAFT STRUCK AN ELECTRICAL BOX DAMAGING THE NOSE GEAR, BROKE THE WHEEL PANTS ON THE MAIN GEAR, AND DENTED THE COWLING AND LEFT WING IN SEVERAL PLACES.

## NTSB investigation

None matched to this report by aircraft and date. Search the NTSB's own records: https://data.ntsb.gov/carol-main-public/basic-search

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
