## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON SUNDAY, JUNE 12, 2011 AT APROX 1400 PM CST, LANCAIR 360 N6ZY WAS WITHIN ITS 40 HOURS OF EXPERIMENTAL FLIGHT PHASE OF THE HOMEBUILT AIRCRAFT. THE OWNER HAD SPENT ELEVEN (11) YEARS BUILDING THE AIRCRAFT. ON APROX THE THIRD (3RD) FLIGHT AND EIGHTH (8TH) HOUR THE ENGINE QUIT RUNNING AT 10,500'. THE PILOT PREDETERMINED, IN THE EVENT OF AN OFF-AIRPORT LANDING, HE WOULD MOST LIKELY LAND GEAR-UP. ACCORDING TO THE PILOT, THIS WOULD PREVENT THE NOSE GEAR IMPACT FROM "FLIPPING" THE AIRCRAFT ONTO ITS BACK. THE PILOT STATED THAT AT 10,500' UNTIL THE ACCIDENT HE REPEATATLY ATTEMPTED TO RESTART THE ENGINE. INVESTIGATION OF THE ACCIDENT FOUND THAT THE RIGHT TANK WAS COMPLETELY FULL OF FUEL AND THE LEFT TANK AND HEADER TANK WERE EMPTY. THE PILOT (SOLE OCCUPANT) SUSTAINED MINOR INJURIES TO INCLUDE BROKEN RIBS. THE PILOT WAS BRIEFLY HOSPITALISED THEN SENT HOME TO RECOVER.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN11LA384](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN11LA384), Jun 12, 2011: Fisher Lancair (N6ZY), Azle, TX, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s inadequate in-flight fuel management, which resulted in a loss of engine power due to fuel starvation.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
