## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON INITIAL LANDING / TOUCH DOWN PASSENGER STOOD UP, CONTRARY TO PREFLIGHT AND PRELANDING INSTRUCTIONS. JUST THEN THE BASKET AROSE AGAIN PENDULUMED FORWARD AND TOUCHED DOWN AGAIN. AS BASKET TOUCHED DOWN AGAIN, MOMENTUM NEARLY EJECTED THIS PASSENGER. PILOT REACHED AND PULLED PASSENGER BACK IN AS BALLOON AROSE AND PENDULUMED AGAIN. THIS ALONG WITH MOMENTUM OF PULLING PASSENGER IN, PILOT FELL OUT BACK SIDE OF BALLOON BASKET LANDING ON HIS NECK / UPPERBACK SUSTAING A FRACTURED C6 VERTABRE. ONE PASSENGER SUSTAINED SMALL CUT ON FORHEAD FROM UNKNOWN SOURCE DURING LANDING AND RECEIVED 2 STICHES AT LOCAL HOSPITAL. ADDITIONAL PASSENGER PULLED OUT TOP OF BALLOON, VENTING IT AS INSTRUCTED AND BALLOON CAME TO FULLSTOP / REST.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN11CA398](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN11CA398), Jun 17, 2011: Lindstrand LBL120A (N5595L), Le Center, MN, substantial damage. Probable cause: The failure of the passenger to follow the pilot's instructions during landing, which caused the pilot to be ejected from the balloon and sustain serious injuries.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
