## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PER PILOT, HE WAS PRACTICING AUTOROTATIONS AND HAD DONE SEVERAL ALREADY. DURING THE LAST AUTOROTATION TO A POWER RECOVERY, WHEN HE ROLLED THE THROTLE BACK ON, HE HEARD A POP, THE LOW ROTOR RPM HORN CAME ON, THE HELICOPTER STARTED TO VIBRATE. THE PILOT DECIDED TO TOUCH DOWN WITH SOME FOWARD SPEED BECAUSE HE DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH POWER TO COME TO A HOVER. AIRCRAFT CONTACTED THE GROUND HARD RIGHT SKID FIRST WHICH BROKE, THEN AIRCRAFT ROLLED OVER AND CAUGHT ON FIRE. PILOT WAS NOT HURT, AIRCRAFT DESTROYED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR11TA274](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR11TA274), Jun 21, 2011: Bell 206B (N38EA), Franklin, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The student pilot's failure to maintain rotor rpm during the practice autorotation.

## Other reports on N38EA (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Accident 19930617019449A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19930617019449A), Jun 17, 1993: Bell 206B3 (N38EA), Stoneyford, CA, Substantial damage. During aerial taxi in mountain terrain a wind gust caused tailboom to hit ground. Yawed settled hard in a creek.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
