## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE AGRICULTURAL PILOT WAS MAKING HIS FIRST PASS OF THE DAY WHEN THE AIRPLANE STRUCK A CENTER PIVOT IRRIGATION SYSTEM. THE IMPACT DAMAGED THE IRRIGATION SYSTEM, AND THE RIGHT LANDING GEAR AND TAIL WHEEL SEPARATED FROM THE AIRPLANE. THE AIRPLANE THEN IMMEDIATELY STARTED A DESCENDING BANK TO THE RIGHT. THE RIGHT AILERON WAS JAMMED IN THE FULL UP POSITION AND CONTROL STICK MOVEMENTS HAD NO AFFECT ON THE RIGHT AILERON. THE PILOT WAS ABLE TO USE FULL POWER, FULL LEFT AILERON, AND FULL LEFT RUDDER TO REGAIN PARTIAL CONTROL AND RETURN TO THE AIRPORT FOR AN EMERGENCY LANDING. AS THE AIRPLANE TOUCHED DOWN THE LEFT LANDING GEAR SEPARATED AND THE AIRPLANE CAME TO REST UPRIGHT WITH RESULTING SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE FUSELAGE AND FLIGHT CONTROLS. THE PILOT WAS ABLE TO EXIT THE AIRPLANE UNASSISTED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN11CA438](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN11CA438), Jun 24, 2011: Cessna A188 (N731ST), Castroville, TX, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain obstacle clearance during the agricultural spraying flight.

## Other reports on N731ST (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Accident 19890520012159A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19890520012159A), May 20, 1989: Cessna A188B (N731ST), La Coste, TX, Substantial damage. Settled into cornfield after takeoff. Short strip high temperature and full load are factors.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
