## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON JUNE 28, 2011 WHILE CONDUCTING PART 137 AERIAL APPLICATION, A CESSNA 188 AIRCRAFT N1588M PILOTED BY ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^, TOOK OFF FROM A PRIVATE ASPHALT STRIP IN ESTELLINE, SD AND CRASHED APPROXIMATELY .5 MILES NE FROM THE END OF THE STRIP. THE AIRCRAFT IMPACTED THE GROUND, CAUGHT FIRE AND SUSTAINED SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE. THE PILOT EXITED THE AIRCRAFT AND SUSTAINED SUBSTATIAL BURNS AND FACIAL LACERATIONS. WITNESSES STATED THAT THE AIRCRAFT TURNED TOWARDS THE NE WHEN THE FIELD TO BE SPRAYED WAS TOWARDS THE SE. THE PILOT HAS NO RECOLLECTION OF THE ACCIDENT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN11LA452](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN11LA452), Jun 28, 2011: Cessna A188A (N1588M), Estelline, SD, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s failure to maintain control of the airplane during takeoff for undetermined reasons because the pilot did not recall the accident.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
