## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON JULY 2, 2011 THIS OFFICE WAS NOTIFIED THAT AIRCRAFT N6PX CRASHED AT 10:27 LOCAL TIME BY THE FAA ROC. THE AIRCRAFT INVOLVED WAS A BINKLEY-RICHARD EXPERIMENTAL AMATEUR BUILT 2 SEAT AIRPLANE (SN 566). THE AIRCRAFT CRASHED APPROXIMATELY ONE MILE SOUTH EAST OF CALHOUN AIRPORT (KZCL). ACCORDING TO WITNESSES, THE AIRCRAFT WAS OBSERVED TO BE FLYING IN A "STRANGE MANNER" AND WITH THE "LEFT WING IN A VERTICAL POSITION" JUST PRIOR TO IMPACT. THERE WERE ALSO WITNESSES AT CALHOUN AIRPORT THAT OBSERVED A "HIGH-PITCH ATTITUDE" JUST AFTER TAKE OFF. ANOTHER WITNESS DESCRIBED A "SLUGGISH" CLIMB RATE ACCOMPANIED BY A "WEAK" SOUNDING ENGINE. THERE WAS ALSO AN ACCOUNT DETAILING AN AUDIBLE ENGINE SKIP IN POWER APPROXIMATELY 1000 FEET INTO THE TAKE OFF. THESE WITNESSES WERE CONSISTENT IN REPORTING THAT AFTER TAKE OFF, THEY OBSERVED "SMOKE BEHIND THE TREES" MOMENTS LATER. THE FIRST RESPONDERS TO THE SCENE WERE MEMBERS OF THE GORDON COUNTY FIRE DEPARTMENT. A TOXICOLOGY BOX WAS GIVEN TO THE CORONER- ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA11FA374](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA11FA374), Jul 2, 2011: Binkley Richard Sonex (N6PX), Calhoun, GA, substantial damage, 1 fatal. Probable cause: The total loss of engine power for reasons that could not be determined because postimpact fire damage precluded a thorough examination of the engine.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
