## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON 07/05/2011 AT 12:26 PM, A CESSNA 150M DEPARTED VA02 (PACE AIRFIELD) FROM A GRASS RUNWAY, UPHILL, WITH A TAILWIND, ABOUT 50 LBS OVER GROSS WEIGHT, AND WITH HIGHER THAN STANDARD DENSITY ALTITUDE. THE AIRCRAFT GOT AIRBORNE BUT COULD NOT CLIMB SUFFICIENTLY TO CLEAR THE TREES. THE AIRCRAFT IMPACTED THE TREES ABOUT 20 FEET FROM THE TOPS. THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST UPSIDE DOWN ABOUT 75 FEET PAST THE TREES. BOTH OCCUPANTS WERE SERIOUSLY INJURED.AIRPLANE DISCREPANCIES WERE DISCOVERED DURING INVESTIGATION; HOWEVER, NONE CONTRIBUTED TO THIS ACCIDENT. AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVES AND EMERGENCY LOCATOR TRANSMITTER MAY NOT BE IN COMPLIANCE AND/OR PROPERLY DOCUMENTED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA11CA377](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA11CA377), Jul 5, 2011: Cessna 150M (N9416U), Ridgeway, VA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's decision to takeoff using a flap setting higher than the manufacturer's recommended setting for takeoff.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
