## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ WITH ONE PASSENGER ON A SIGHTSEEING FLIGHT FROM STRIP AT ANDERSON LAKE AK.(OAK1). WHILE FLYING ALONG THE FACE OF PIONEER PEAK, PILOT TURNED AIRCRAFT TOWARD MOUNTAIN TO REVIEW SOME SHEEP THEY HAD JUST FLOWN PAST. AIRCRAFT DESCENDED IN TURN, PILOT PULLED BACK ON THE STICK AND ADDITIONAL POWER WAS ADDED BUT COULD NOT OVERCOME IMPENDING STALL WARNING. PILOT ELECTED CONTROLLED FLIGHT INTO TERRAIN RATHER THAN RISK UNCONTROLLED STALL/SPIN. PILOT AND PASSENGER RECEIVED MINOR INJURIES. AIRCRAFT DESTROYED IN ACCIDENT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ANC11CA058](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ANC11CA058), Jul 6, 2011: Aviat A-1B (N949AK), Palmer, AK, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's decision to fly at a low altitude in mountainous terrain and weather conditions conducive to downdrafts.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
