## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AIRMAN WAS CONDUCTING SWATH RUNS ON A NORTH/SOUTH ORIENTATION IN A CORNFIELD WITH HIGH TENSION POWER LINES RUNNING DIAGONALLY THROUGH THE FIELD FROM A SOUTHWEST TO NORTH EAST DIRECTION. THE AIRMAN HAD COMPLETED APPROXIMATELY SIX OR SEVEN SWATH RUNS , FLYING UNDERNEATH THE POWERLINES. THE AIRMAN STATED ON THE NEXT SWATH RUN JUST AS HE WAS ABOUT TO PASS UNDERNEATH THE WIRES THAT HE OBSERVED A SLIGHT RISE IN THE TERRAIN UNDER THE WIRES. HE STATED HE ATTEMPTED TO MISS THE WIRES BY FLYING DOWN INTO THE CORN CROP, HOWEVER THE WIRE DEFLECTION CABLE AND RUDDER CAP CLIPPED THE LOWER POWERLINE. THE AIRCRAFT RECEIVED MINOR DAMAGE TO THE RUDDER CAP, SEVERED THE WIRE DEFLECTION CABLE AND SLIGHTLY BENT THE VERTICAL STABILIZER SPAR. THE PILOT, THE SOLE OCCUPANT, RECEIVED NO INJURIES. THE POWER LINES WERE UNDAMAGED

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
