## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE AIRCRAFT WAS UNABLE TO LAND BACK AT THE AIRPORT. THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST IN A FIELD. THE LEFT AND RIGHT WINGS CONTACTED CROPS THAT WERE LOCATED ON EITHER SIDE OF THE GLIDER'S LANDING ROLL. THE LEFT WING ENGAGED THE CROPS MORE FULLY THAN THE RIGHT WING AND THE GLIDER YAWED TO THE RIGHT BEFORE COMING TO REST. AS A RESULT OF THE LANDING ROLL, THE EMPENNAGE WAS SUBSTANTIALLY DAMAGED. THE PILOT REPORTED THAT THERE WERE NO PREIMPACT MECHANICAL MALFUNCTIONS OR FAILURES WITH THE AIRFRAME THAT WOULD HAVE PRECLUDED NORMAL FLIGHT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR11CA342](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR11CA342), Jul 21, 2011: Schleicher ASW-27 (N78AB), Preston, ID, substantial damage. Probable cause: The glider's impact with crops during the off-airport landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
