ON JULY 25, 2011 AT APPROXIMETLY 1235 CDT THE GYROCOPTER ROTATED NORMALLY FROM RUNWAY 33 IN THE ULTRALITE AREA, HOWEVER IT WAS UNABLE TO ESTABLISH A CLIMB RESULTING IN A HARD LANDING. THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE. THE PRIVATE PILOT DID NOT SUSTAIN ANY INJURIES.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN11LA506](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN11LA506), Jul 25, 2011: Gottschalk John R John 1 (N559RD), Oshkosh, WI, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's inadequate preflight planning, which led to the power required exceeding the power available and resulted in a loss of lift and subsequent hard landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
