## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE AIRMAN WAS TRAVELING FROM THE EAA AIRVENTURE EXPOSITION AT OSHKOSH, WI ON 7/31/2011, WHEN HE EXPERIENCED A LOSS OF POWER WITH HIS AIRCRAFT. HE ATTEMPTED TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM BY APPLYING CARBURATOR HEAT. THE AIRCRAFT APPEARED TO RUN BETTER AT FIRST, THEN CONTINUED TO LOSE POWER. HE MADE AN EMERGENCY LANDING IN A CORN FIELD NEAR ROLFE, IA. HE HAD JUST REFUELED HIS AIRCRAFT IN CHARLES CITY, IA. AS HE APPROACHED THE FIELD OF INTENDED LANDING, HE NOTICED POWER LINES DIRECTLY AHEAD OF HIM. HE HAD TO MANEUVER HIS AIRCRAFT TO MISS THE POWER LINES AND THEN COMPLETE HIS EMERGENCY LANDING. HE LANDED IN A CORNFIELD AND SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO HIS AIRCRAFT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)
