## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AFTER TAKING ON 75 GALLONS OF FUEL AND 400 GALLONS OF CHEMICAL, PILOT DEPARTED WASHINGTON MUNICIPAL AIRPORT, WASHINGTON, IOWA ON RUNWAY 18. SHORTLY AFTER TAKE OFF, WHILE TURNING TOWARDS THE WEST, PILOT REPORTED HEARING A LOUD BANG COMING FROM THE ENGINE. THIS WAS FOLLOWED BY A LOSS OF POWER, THEN COMPLETE ENGINE FAILURE. THE PILOT MADE AN EMERGENCY LANDING ONTO A CLEARING AND IMPACTED THE GROUND AT A SLIGHT NOSE DOWN RIGHT WING LOW ATTITUDE, APPROXIMATELY THIRTY YARDS SOUTHEAST OF A PRIVATE RESIDENCE. IT CAME TO REST WITH THE TAIL UP AGAINST A RETAINING WALL AND THE HOUSE. TOTAL HOPPER WEIGHT AT TAKE OFF WAS 3345 LBS, MAXIMUM ALLOWABLE IS 3336 LBS.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN11LA543](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN11LA543), Aug 3, 2011: Aero Commander S2R (N1735S), Washington, IA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The loss of engine power for reasons that could not be determined because postaccident examination of the airframe and engine did not reveal any anomalies that would have precluded normal operation.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
