## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AIRMAN FLEW THE AIRCRAFT FROM MASON CITY, IA, ENROUTE TO LAND IN DES MOINES (DSM), ON THE DAY OF THE INCIDENT. WEATHER WAS VFR, WITH LIGHT WINDS AND A SLIGHT CROSS WIND FROM THE LEFT, WHEN LANDING ON RUNWAY 31. THE AIRMAN LANDED ON RUNWAY 31 IN DSM WITHOUT INCIDENT; HOWEVER, WHEN HE STARTED TO LOWER THE TAILWHEEL TO THE RUNWAY SURFACE, THE AIRCRAFT VEERED TO THE RIGHT AND HE WAS UNABLE TO CORRECT FOR THIS CONDITION. HE TAXIED ONTO THE GRASS AND ONTO ANOTHER TAXIWAY AND WAS ABLE TO STOP THE AIRCRAFT. GROUND CONTROL AT DSM GAVE HIM TAXI CLEARANCE TO TAXI TO HIS HANGAR, WHERE HE STORED THE AIRCRAFT. HE STRUCK AND DAMAGED A TAXIWAY LIGHT DURING THE INCIDENT; HOWEVER, NO DAMAGE WAS INCURRED TO HIS AIRCRAFT.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
