THE AIRMAN ENCOUNTERED RESISTANCE IN THE CONTROL STICK AND FELT SOMETHING BREAK AND HEARD A SOUND DESCRIBED AS CABLE STRIKING METAL. AFTER THREE TURNS, THE AIRMAN DECIDED TO LAND IN A SOYBEAN FIELD. THE AIRMAN REPORTS TOUCHING DOWN NEARLY LEVEL BEFORE THE AIRCRAFT DECELERATED AND TURNED OVER ON ITS TOP.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN11LA588](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN11LA588), Aug 21, 2011: Hendryx Steve/Wiley Ross Super Rebel (N540AF), La Porte City, IA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The improper assembly of the aileron cable by the airplane builder.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
