## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE PILOT FLEW TO THE AREA AND WAS HUNTING FOR APPROXIMATELY THREE HOURS PRIOR TO DEPARTING FOR ANCHORAGE. HE TOOK OFF TO THE SOUTH WITH A QUARTERING HEADWIND. AT ROTATION, A GUST OF WIND LIFTED HIS LEFT WING CAUSING THE RIGHT WING TO STRIKE THE GROUND.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ANC11CA086](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ANC11CA086), Aug 25, 2011: Piper PA-18-150 (N8491Y), Beluga Lake, AK, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's decision to takeoff with an unfavorable wind which resulted in a loss of directional control, and collision with terrain.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
