## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT WAS BACK TAXIING ON RWY 19 FOR A DEPARTURE ON RWY 01 WHEN A GUST OF WIND FROM EAST (080) AT APPROX 15KTS HIT TAIL FROM LEFT REAR. AIRCRAFT SPUN AROUND 180 DEGREES VERY QUICKLY AND RH GEAR COLLAPSED. RH WING STRUCK GROUND, AND PROPELLER CONTACTED RWY PAVEMENT. SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE NOTED TO RH WING, RH HORIZONTAL STABILIZER, PROPELLER, AND WELDED TUBING IN FUSELAGE NEAR RH GEAR ATTACH POINTS. RH GEAR LEG TORN FROM ATTACH POINTS AND SEPARATED FROM AIRCRAFT. NO EVIDENCE OF OPERATIONAL ERROR BY PILOT. GEAR APPEARS TO HAVE FAILED PREMATURELY UNDER MODERATE SIDE LOAD.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR11LA427](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR11LA427), Sep 3, 2011: Stinson V77 (N9112H), Tillamook, OR, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s loss of directional control while taxiing in a gusting tailwind.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
