## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE PILOT OF THE AIRCRAFT STATED THAT THERE WAS APPROXIMATELY A 15 KNOT TAILWIND WHILE ATTEMPTING TO LAND ON A 2500 X 200FT TURF RUNWAY AT A PRIVATE AIRPARK. THE PILOT STATED THAT HE COULD NOT SLOW THE PLANE DOWN AND OVERSHOT THE RUNWAY. THE AIRCRAFT DEPARTED THE TURF RUNWAY, PROCEEDED THROUGH A WOODEN FENCE, OVER A COUNTY ROAD, INTO A FIELD WHERE IT STRUCK SEVERAL SMALL TREES AND CAME TO REST IN A NEWLY CLEARED FIELD. THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA11CA492](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA11CA492), Sep 15, 2011: Grumman American Avn. AA-5A (N9982U), Cleveland, GA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's poor decision to land with a tailwind, which resulted in a runway excursion.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
