## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE ENGINE LOST POWER IMMEDIATELY AFTER TAKEOFF FROM RUNWAY 26. THE PILOT ELECTED TO LAND IN THE DIRT JUST TO THE NORTH OF THE RUNWAY. THE PILOT WAS HOSPITALIZED WITH SEVERAL FRACTURED VERTABRAE. THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE DUE TO THE GEAR-UP LANDING IN THE UNEVEN TERRAIN.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR11FA453](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR11FA453), Sep 15, 2011: Dacey Venture (N521XD), Reno, NV, substantial damage. Probable cause: A total loss of engine power during the initial climb due to the pilot’s premature activation of the engine's anti-detonant injection system.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
