HE APPLIED LEFT RUDDER AND RIGHT AILERON IN AN EFFORT TO PREVENT A RIGHT GROUND LOOP. THE AIRCRAFT DID NOT RESPOND TO FLIGHT CONTROL INPUTS AND BEGAN TO SKID HARD RIGHT WITH THE MAJORITY OF THE WEIGHT ON THE LEFT MAIN LANDING GEAR. IT SUBSEQUENTLY LEFT THE RUNWAY, HITTING A RUNWAY SIGN. AS THE LEFT MAIN GEAR FOLDED UNDER THE FUSELAGE IT CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE LEFT WING TIP BEHIND THE WING SPAR AND LEFT WING NEAR THE ATTACHMENT POINT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN11LA658](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN11LA658), Sep 18, 2011: Mark Divita RV-8 (N98D), Lancaster, TX, substantial damage. Probable cause: The failure of the tailwheel to remain locked during a crosswind landing, which resulted in a loss of directional control.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
