## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AIRCRAFT CRASHED INTO THE SWIFT CREEK RESERVOIR, AFTER THE AIRCRAFT ENGINE QUIT DUE TO FUEL STARVATION. POST ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION REVEALED THAT THE FUEL SELECTOR WAS SELECTED TO LEFT TANK AND THE LEFT FUEL TANK WAS EMPTY. RIGHT FUEL TANK HAD APPROXIMATELY 20 GALLONS OF AVIATION FUEL. PILOT STATED THAT THE ENGINE DID NOT SPUTTER OR HAVE ANY UNUSUAL NOISE AND THE PROP CONTINUED TO WINDMILL. HE ATTEMPTED TO RESTART ENGINE AFTER IT SHUT DOWN BUT DISCONTINUED TO FIND A LANDING SITE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA12CA059](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA12CA059), Nov 2, 2011: Beech F33A (N833), Chesterfield, VA, substantial damage. Probable cause: A total loss of engine power due to fuel starvation, as a result of the pilot's improper fuel management.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
