## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THIS OFFICE INVESTIGATED AN ACCIDENT OF N6685S, A BEECH BARON 58 AIRCRAFT THAT OCCURRED ON NOVEMBER 11, 2011 AT THE CONNERSVILLE AIRPORT IN CONNERSVILLE, INDIANA INVOLVING ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ AS THE PILOT IN COMMAND. THE PILOT WAS PRACTICING SINGLE ENGINE APPROACHES AND LANDINGS IN PREPARATION FOR AN UPCOMING FAA CHECK RIDE. THE PILOT MADE SEVERAL MISTAKES DURING THE COURSE OF THIS ACCIDENT. THE PILOT WAS SIMULATING AN ENGINE FAILURE ON THE NUMBER 2 ENGINE (RIGHT ENGINE). THE POWER LEVER WAS IN THE IDLE DETENT DURING THE APPROACH AND LANDING FLARE PHASE. INSTEAD OF BRINGING THE NUMBER 1 ENGINE (LEFT ENGINE) POWER LEVER TO THE IDLE DETENT, THE PILOT MISTAKENLY RETARDED THE LEFT ENGINE PROP LEVER TOWARD THE FEATHER POSITION. THIS CAUSED THE AIRCRAFT TO YAW TO THE LEFT. THE PILOT THEN ATTEMPTED TO CONDUCT A GO-AROUND AND PUSHED BOTH PROP LEVERS AND POWER LEVERS TO THE FULL FORWARD POSITION. THE AIRCRAFT THEN SKIDDED-OFF THE LEFT SIDE OF RUNWAY 18. ONCE THE PILOT REALIZED THAT THE AIRCRAFT WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO BECOME AIRBORNE, HE THEN RETARDED BOTH POWER LEVERS TO IDLE AND TRIED TO STOP THE AIRCRAFT. THE AIRCRAFT ROLLED APPROXIMATELY 200 YARDS THROUGH A FARM FIELD, CUT THROUGH A ROW OF TREES, AND CAME TO REST NOSE DOWN IN A CREEK-BED. THE PILOT AND HIS PASSENGER WHO WAS ACTING AS A SAFETY PILOT MANAGED TO ESCAPE THE ACCIDENT WITH ONLY MINOR INJURIES.
