## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THIS WAS AN INSTRUCTIONAL FLIGHT FROM SAN CARLOS AIRPORT. PRIOR TO THE FLIGHT, A FRONT MOVED THROUGH THE AREA WITH LIGHT RAIN SHOWERS. ON FINAL APPROACH TO RUNWAY 30 AT SAN CARLOS, THE STUDENT PILOT APPLIED WIND CORRECTION FOR A LEFT CROSS WIND USING A CRAB TECHNIQUE. DURING LANDING PHASE, THE STUDENT PILOT TRANSITIONED TO WING LOW SIDE SLIP TECHNIQUE WITH AILERON ASSIST FROM THE INSTRUCTOR PILOT. THE STUDENT PILOT LANDED IN 3 POINT LANDING AFTER INTERSECTION ECHO (APPROXIMATELY 1200 FEET DOWN THE RUNWAY). AT INTERSECTION DELTA THE STUDENT PILOT REACHED OVER TO RETRACT THE FLAPS, VISUALLY DIVERTING ATTENTION FROM THE CENTERLINE AND SIMULTANEOUSLY RELEASING LEFT AILERON WIND CORRECTION. THE INSTRUCTOR PILOT DID NOT MAINTAIN THE CROSS WIND INPUT. THE AIRCRAFT DRIFTED TO THE RIGHT AND THE STUDENT PILOT ATTEMPTED TO CORRECT WITH BRAKING ON THE WET SURFACE. BRAKING CAUSED THE AIRCRAFT TO SKID RIGHT, DEPART THE RUNWAY, ACROSS INTERSECTION CHARLIE, THROUGH THE GRASS AND STOPPED PRIOR TO TAXIWAY LIMA. MINOR DAMAGE WAS NOTED ON THE RIGHT WHEEL FAIRING AND INTERSECTION SIGN.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
