## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AT 2016 LOCAL, PILOT TOOK OFF ON RUNWAY 02 AND WHILE CLIMBING THROUGH 2000 FT, A PASSENGER SITTING IN THE RIGHT FRONT SEAT TOLD THE PILOT THAT SPARKS WERE COMING OUT OF THE TOP COWLING OF THE RIGHT ENGINE. THE PILOT VERIFIED THIS AND SHUT DOWN AND FEATHERED THE ENGINE. THE PILOT LANDED LONG ON RUNWAY 20 WITH A TAILWIND AND RAN OFF THE RUNWAY IN SOGGY TURF. THE AIRCRAFT HIT THE ALPHA TAXIWAY SIGN AT RUNWAY 02 BEFORE DEPARTING THE RUNWAY.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
