## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AIRCRAFT WAS MAKING A LEFT TURN RETURNING TO THE AIRPORT, WHEN THE ENGINE SUDDENLY QUIT. THE PILOT CONTINUED HIS LEFT TURN TRYING TO RETURN TO THE AIRPORT. HE WAS UNABLE TO MAINTAIN ALTITUDE AND PROCEEDED TO LAND IN A NEARBY FIELD. UNABLE TO MAKE THE FIELD HE LANDED IN A NEARBY BACKYARD OF A RESIDENTIAL AREA. THE AIRCRAFT STRUCK A SMALL TREE, BROKE OFF THE NOSE GEAR FROM GROUND IMPACT, AND CAME TO REST 180 DEGREES FROM INITIAL IMPACT. THE AIRCRAFT SUFFERED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE. THE PILOT RECIEVED MINOR INJURIES.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA12LA101](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA12LA101), Dec 4, 2011: Cessna 172D (N2344U), Belhaven, NC, substantial damage. Probable cause: A total loss of engine power for reasons that could not be determined because postaccident examination did not reveal any anomalies that would have precluded normal operation.

## Other reports on N2344U (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Accident 19880811032509A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19880811032509A), Aug 11, 1988: Cessna 172D (N2344U), Tupelo, MS, Substantial damage. Nosed over landing in a crosswind. Pilot blames a downwind gust caught the wing and tail causing a nose over.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
