## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE PILOT IN COMMAND DEPARTED SANFORD- LEE COUNTY AIRPORT AFTER RECEIVING LIMITED WEATHER INFORMATION INDICATING STRONG GUSTY WINDS. WHILE ENROUTE TO TRIPLE W AIRPORT, HE CHECKED ASOS FROM JOHNSTON COUNTY AIRPORT WHICH REPORTED WIND AT 8 KNOTS. NO WEATHER REPORTING WAS AVAILABLE AT TRIPLE W AIRPORT. THE PIC LANDED AT TRIPLE W AIRPORT, TOUCHED DOWN APPROXIMATELY 1000 FEET DOWN THE RUNWAY ON THE LEFT MARGIN OF THE RUNWAY. AT TOUCHDOWN, THE AIRCRAFT CONTINUED ITS TRAVEL TO THE LEFT, IMPACTED A TREE WITH THE LEFT WING, SPUN TO THE LEFT APPROXIMATELY 150 DEGREES FROM THE ORIGINAL DIRECTION OF TRAVEL, AND BEGAN SKIDDING SIDEWAYS IN DEEP MUD UNTIL IT STOPPED APPROXIMATELY 100 FEET FROM THE RUNWAY EDGE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA12CA160](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA12CA160), Dec 30, 2011: Piper PA-28-161 (N8330S), Raleigh, NC, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's loss of directional control while landing in gusting wind conditions.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
