## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON MONDAY, 2 JAN 2012, AT APPROXIMATELY 1300 EST, N171GS, A MAULE M5 + STOL MOD, EXPERIENCED A LOSS OF CONTROL AND SUBSEQUENT GROUND LOOP UPON ROLLOUT FROM A LANDING AT RIVER RANCH RESORT (2RR) RW 16, RIVER RANCH, FL. THE RUNWAY WAS DRY, AND VMC PREVAILED AT THE TIME. THE PILOT AND TWO PASSENGERS WERE UNINJURED, BUT THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE. THE PILOT STATED THAT HE ENCOUNTERED A WIND SHEAR FROM HIS LEFT REAR QUARTER AT TOUCHDOWN/ROLLOUT AND WAS UNABLE TO CORRECT FOR IT IN TIME.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA12CA134](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA12CA134), Jan 2, 2012: Maule M-5-180C (N171GS), River Ranch, FL, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s failure to maintain directional control after encountering a wind gust during landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
