## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

DURING LANDING ON RUNWAY 19 AT MKC, THE NOSEGEAR LOCKED TO THE EXTREME LEFT, DUE TO FAILURE OF THE RIGHT NOSE GEAR STEERING ROD END. THIS MADE THE NOSE WHEEL STEERING INOPERATIVE, WHICH CAUSED THE AIRCRAFT TO SLEW TO THE LEFT, EVENTUALLY LEAVING THE RUNWAY SURFACE, AND IMPACTING A PAPI LIGHT ASSEMBLY. THE NOSE GEAR COLLAPSED, DUE TO HITTING THE CONCRETE PAD SUPPORTING THE PAPA LIGHT. THE AIRCRAFT ALSO IMPACTED A TAXIWAY LIGHT BEFORE COMING TO REST.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN12LA147](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN12LA147), Feb 2, 2012: Bellanca 17-30 (N6564V), Kansas City, MO, substantial damage. Probable cause: The failure of the nosewheel steering pushrod, which resulted in a loss of airplane directional control and runway excursion.

## Other reports on N6564V (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Incident 19970719024439I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19970719024439I), Jul 19, 1997: Blanca 1730 (N6564V), Denver, CO, Minor damage. Pilot beleived a tire blew on landing. Inspection landing gear collapsed. Lower scissors broke. Wheel spun. Folded.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
