## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

WITNESSES REPORTED THAT AT APROX. 10:39 AM THEY WATCHED ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ BEGAN HIS LANDING APPROACH FROM THE NORTH, APPROX. ¾ MILE FROM THE AIR STRIP. WHILE MAKING A LEFT BANKING TURN ON FINIAL, THEY OBSERVED THE LEFT WING, OF THE PLANE, DROP AND THE NOSE OF THE PLANE POINT STRAIGHT DOWN. WHILE MONITORING THE RADIO THEY HEARD ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ YELL "OH NO", WITH NO FURTHER COMMENTS. THEY SURMISED THAT THE LEFT WING HAD STALLED AND THE AIRCRAFT WENT DOWN INTO THE TREES ¾ MILE NORTH OF THE AIR PARK. WHEN THEY ARRIVED AT THE SCENE THE AIRCRAFT WAS NOSE DOWN AND APPEARED TO HAVE BEEN SLOWED DOWN BY THE TREES. THE CANOPY WAS POPPED OPEN AND SEPARATED FROM THE AIRCRAFT. ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ WAS CONSCIOUS AND ALERT BUT WAS ENTRAPPED BY HIS LEGS, IN THE WRECKAGE. BOTH WITNESSES STATED TO THE FAA THAT THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING AND SOUNDED NORMAL PRIOR TO IMPACT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA12LA171](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA12LA171), Feb 6, 2012: Moore Byron J Zealot (N61ZT), Minneola, FL, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain adequate airspeed on the base leg for landing, which resulted in an aerodynamic stall and loss of airplane control.
