## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE AIRCRAFT BEGAN THE TAKEOFF GROUND ROLL ON RUNWAY 33. UPON ROTATION THE INSTRUCTOR SIMULATED A POWERPLANT FAILURE BY RETARDING THE THROTTLE TO IDLE. THE AIRCRAFT DESCENDED BACK TO THE RUNWAY AND THE STUDENT ADDED FULL POWER. AIRCRAFT CONTROL WAS LOST AND THE AIRCRAFT EXITED THE LEFT SIDE OF THE RUNWAY WITH FULL THROTTLE. INSTRUCTOR REPEATEDLY TRIED TO GET THE STUDENT TO RETARD THE THROTTLE. THE AIRCRAFT STRUCK A TAXI LIGHT AND 2000' RUNWAY MARKER. THE STUDENT RETARDED THE THROTTLE AND THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST. THE AIRCRAFT WAS THEN TAXIED TO THE RAMP UNDER ITS OWN POWER.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA12CA213](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA12CA213), Feb 13, 2012: Zenair CH 2000 (N200ZA), Warrenton, VA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The student pilot's failure to follow instruction and to relinquish control of the airplane to the flight instructor in a timely manner, which resulted in a runway excursion.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
