## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT AND PASSENGER WERE CONDUCTING A FLY-BY AT A FARM OWNED BY FRIENDS OF THE PASSENGER. AFTER COMPLETING ONE CIRCUIT AROUND THE HOUSE AT LOW ALTITUDE, THE PILOT CAME BACK AROUND AGAIN AT LOW ALTITUDE AND STRUCK A LARGE TREE WITH THE RIGHT WING OF THE AIRCRAFT, CAUSING LOSS OF CONTROL AND CONTACT WITH THE GROUND. THERE WAS A POST-CRASH FIRE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN12FA158](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN12FA158), Feb 14, 2012: Piper PA-28-180 (N4824L), Osborn, MO, substantial damage, 2 fatal. Probable cause: The pilot’s decision to conduct low-level passes above a residence and his failure to maintain sufficient altitude.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
