## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON THE FINAL LEG ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ WAS INBOUND TO LAND ON RUNWAY 22 AT CDW. WINDS WERE ANNOUNCED AS VARIABLE AT 6 KNOTS. ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ FLEW THE APPROACH AND TOUCHED DOWN ON RUNWAY 22. A WIND GUST CAUSED THE PILOT TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE AIRCRAFT. THE AIRCRAFT RUN OFF THE RUNWAY INTO THE GRASS. THE AIRCRAFT HIT A TAXIWAY SIGN, COLLAPSING THE LEFT MAIN LANDING GEAR AND DAMAGING THE LEFT HAND ELEVATOR. THE PLANE CAME TO REST ON TAXIWAY P. THE PILOT SHUT DOWN THE AIRCRAFT AND SHUTOFF THE FUEL MASTER SWITCH.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA12CA189](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA12CA189), Feb 18, 2012: Cessna 172S (N506SP), Caldwell, NJ, substantial damage. Probable cause: The student pilot’s loss of directional control during a crosswind landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
