## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON FEBRUARY 19, 2012, AT APPROXIMATELY 14:35, ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ PRIVATE PILOT CERTIFICATE NO.^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^, WAS LANDING AT MAYAGUEZ AIRPORT (MAZ), RUNWAY 9, IN A CESSNA 172 AIRCRAFT, N5286H. WHEN THE AIRCRAFT WAS CLOSE TO TOUCH DOWN, THE PILOT EXPERIENCED A HARD CROSS WIND. THE PILOT APPLIED FULL POWER TO GO AROUND BUT THE AIRPLANE HIT THE RUNWAY AND CONTINUED THE FORWARD MOVEMENT OFF THE RUNWAY TOWARD A VEGETATION AREA WHERE IT FLIPPED OVER. THE PILOT AND ITS THREE (3) PASSENGERS IMMEDIATELY EXITED THE AIRCRAFT WITHOUT INJURY.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA12CA211](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA12CA211), Feb 19, 2012: Cessna 172M (N5286H), Mayaquez, PR, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot did not maintain control of the airplane while landing in crosswind conditions.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
