UPON LANDING, PILOT SECURED THAT ENGINE AND ALONG WITH THE PASSENGER, EXITED THE AIRCRAFT. PILOT NOTED THE AIRCRAFT WAS BEING ENGULFED BY FIRE THAT APPEAR TO ORIGINATE FROM THE ENGINE AREA. THE FIRE SPREAD RAPIDLY AND DESTROYED THE AIRCRAFT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR12LA113](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR12LA113), Feb 21, 2012: Haycraft Sport Hornet (N72PD), Mariposa, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: Improper clearance and inadequate heat shielding between engine components and the exhaust system, which resulted in an in-flight fire.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
