## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR AND PRIVATE PILOT WERE PRACTICING EMERGENCY LANDINGS AT THE SOMMERSET NJ. AIRPORT. THE PRIVATE PILOT WAS IN THE PROCESS OF PRACTICING AN EMERGENCY LANDING TO RUNWAY 30 AT SMG. THE PRIVATE PILOT WAS IN THE PROCESS OF LOOSING ALTITUDE TO MAKE THE RUNWAY AND ENTERING AT A 45 DEGREE ANGLE. THE INSTRUCTOR ALLOWED THE PILOT TO DECEND TOO LOW ON THE MANUVER, WHEN THE PRIVATE PILOT APPLIED POWER FOR THE GO-AROUND HE MISTAKENLY PUSHED THE TRIM HANDLE RATHER THAN THE POWER LEVER. THE RECOVERY FOR THIS MANUVER WAS UNATAINABLE AND THE AIRCRAFT IMPACTED THE GROUND.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA12CA204](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA12CA204), Mar 2, 2012: American Champion 7GCAA (N518F), Bedminster, NJ, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot receiving instruction’s inadvertent movement of the pitch trim control to the nose-down position while attempting a go-around.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
