## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON MARCH 09, 2012 AT 1027L, A CIRRUS SR-22 N444VR, REGISTERED TO N444VR LLC, OPERATING AS A PART 91 FLIGHT, MADE AN EMERGENCY LANDING IN A FIELD IN HOMESTEAD FL. VISUAL METEOROLOGICAL CONDITIONS PREVAILED. THE AIRCRAFT FLOWN BY A FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR PILOT AND A PRIVATE RATED PILOT FLYING LEVEL AT 6000 FEET EXPERIENCED A LOSS OF POWER. THE PILOTS DECLARED AN EMERGENCY WITH MIAMI CENTER AND THE EMERGENCY CHECKLIST WAS COMPLETED. ALL ATTEMPTS TO RESTART THE ENGINE FAILED. THE PILOT TURNED TO THE EAST AND MAINTAINED 1000 FPM RATE OF DESCENT TO ATTEMPT A LANDING AT OCEAN REEF AIRPORT 10NM AWAY AND DETERMINED HE WOULD NOT MAKE THE AIRPORT. HE TURNED BACK TO THE WEST TO ATTEMPT A LANDING ON HIGHWAY US1 AND DETERMINED THE RISK WAS TOO GREAT GIVEN THE TRAFFIC VOLUME. THEY NOTICED AN OPEN AREA IN A FIELD THAT APPEARED AS A SUITABLE LANDING AREA. THEY PUT THE FLAPS 50 PERCENT AND LANDED IN A FOOT OF WATER GOING OVER A SMALL WOODED AREA THAT DETACHED BOTH THE LEFT AND RIGHT MAIN LANDING GEAR FROM THE AIRCRAFT. THE AIRCRAFT PROCEEDED ON A NORTH TRACK INTO A SWAMP AREA WITH A FOOT OF WATER. THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST APPROXIMATELY 450 FEET PAST INITIAL TOUCHDOWN POINT. THE AIRCRAFT WAS SHUTDOWN AND THE CREW AND PASSENGER EVACUATED. THE PILOT REPORTED NO INJURIES.
