## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

I SPOKE WITH THE PILOT IN COMMAND, ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ CONCERNING THE PROBLEM. ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ STATED "I WAS CRUISING AT FL 230 AND NOTICED THE CYLINDER HEAD TEMPERATURE (CHT) HAD BEGUN TO RISE. NORMAL OPERATING LIMIT FOR THE CHT IS BETWEEN 360 TO 380 DEGREES CENTIGRADE. INDICATED TEMPERATURE WAS IN THE 440 TO 450 DEGREE RANGE. I REQUESTED A DESCENT AND LANDING AT SCOTTSDALE MUNICIPAL AIRPORT WITH A POSSIBLE ENGINE MALFUNCTION. DURING THE DESCENT AT APPROXIMATELY 9,000 FEET THE CHT ROSE TO 490 DEGREES AND THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING ROUGH. AT THIS POINT I DECLARED AN EMERGENCY AND WAS GIVEN A STRAIGHT IN APPROACH TO SCOTTSDALE MUNICIPAL AND LANDED WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT." THE AIRCRAFT WAS TURNED OVER TO LANDMARK AVIATION FOR REPAIR. LANDMARK AVIATION IDENTIFIED A RIGHT MAGNETO DRIVE GEAR FAILURE AS THE PROBLEM. THE TECHNICIAN SAID NUMEROUS TEETH WERE MISSING FROM THE DRIVE GEAR.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
