## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AIRCRAFT WAS BEING FLOWN TO CHECK ALL SYSTEMS AFTER SEVERAL MONTHS IN STORAGE. AIRCRAFT CLIMBED TO 2600 FEET AND WAS DIRECTED AWAY FROM A PRE-FLIGHT COORDINATED (WITH ATC) TEST AREA DUE TO AIR TRAFFIC. DURING THIS DEVIATION TO THE NORTH/NORTHEAST A FLAPPING NOISE WAS HEARD AND VIBRATION FROM THE DRIVE SYSTEM. SMOKE WAS DETECTED IN THE NOSE CONE AND COCKPIT. ATC WAS CONTACTED AND DUE TO LOCATION AND WIND DIRECTION THE DECISION WAS MADE TO LAND AT ORMOND BEACH. THIS BEING A MOTORIZED GLIDER THE ENGINE WAS SHUTDOWN AND A LANDING WAS MADE AT ORMOND BEACH. AIRCRAFT TAXIED TO RAMP AFTER RESTARTING ENGINE.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
