## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT DEPARTED FROM TALLADEGA AIRPORT (KASN) FOR A LOCAL FLIGHT. AFTER ABOUT THIRTY MINUTES THE ENGINE QUIT AND THE PILOT SELECTED THE LEFT TANK. AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS THE ENGINE WOULD NOT RESTART THE PILOT SELECTED THE RIGHT TANK AGAIN. THE ENGINE DID NOT RESTART. THE PILOT FOLLOWED THE CHECK LIST FOR A FORCED LANDING. FUEL WAS VISUALLY PRESENT IN THE LEFT TANK AND NO FUEL COULD BE SEEN IN THE RIGHT TANK. THE AIRCRAFT WAS IN A NOSE LOW POSITON AT THE TIME.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA12LA253](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA12LA253), Mar 24, 2012: Piper PA-28-180 (N7309W), Margaret, AL, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's inadequate in-flight fuel management, which resulted in a total loss of engine power during cruise flight due to fuel starvation.

## Other reports on N7309W (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Incident 19970705024539I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19970705024539I), Jul 5, 1997: Piper PA28180 (N7309W), Custer, SD, Minor damage. Struck two deer landing. Taxied to hangar. Minor damage.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
