## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON MARCH 30, 2012, ABOUT 0911 MOUNTAIN STANDARD TIME, A FOCKE-WULF FW-190A AIRPLANE, N190DK, SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGED DURING A LANDING AT CASE GRANDE AIRPORT (CGZ), CASA GRANDE, ARIZONA. THE AIRCRAFT DEPARTED THE RUNWAY AFTER TOUCH DURING LANDING ON THE FIRST ATTEMPT. THE PILOT WAS NOT INJURED. THE FLIGHT WAS OPERATED UNDER THE PROVISIONS OF 14 CODE OF FEDERAL REGULATIONS PART 91. VISUAL METEOROLOGICAL CONDITIONS PREVAILED, AND A FLIGHT PLAN WAS NOT FILED.ACCORDING TO THE PILOT, THE AIRPLANE WAS A LOW WING SINGLE ENGINE CONFIGURATION WITH CONVENTIONAL LANDING GEAR. PRIOR TO THE FLIGHT HE CONDUCTED A PREFLIGHT INSPECTION PRIOR TO DEPARTING CGZ FOR A PHASE 1 TEST FLIGHT. WHEN RETURNING TO CGZ THE PILOT JOINTED THE PATTERN AND CONTINUED HIS APPROACH. ON THE PILOT'S FIRST ATTEMPT TO LAND HE STATED HE TOUCHED DOWN AND LOST CONTROL, DEPARTING THE RUNWAY TO THE RIGHT SIDE. AS HE DEPARTED THE RUNWAY WITH THE ENGINE AT IDLE POWER, THE LEFT MAIN GEAR COLLAPSED AND THE AIRPLANE CAME TO REST APPROXIMATELY 100 FT ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE RUNWAY. THE PILOT EXITED THE AIRCRAFT NORMALLY. THE PILOT REPORTED A TOTAL FLIGHT EXPERIENCE OF 3449 HOURS, INCLUDING ABOUT 45 MINUTES IN THE ACCIDENT AIRPLANE MAKE AND MODEL. AUTOMATED WEATHER OBSERVATIONS FROM SURROUNDING AIRPORTS ABOUT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT INCLUDED CALM WINDS; CLEAR SKIES; TEMPERATURES ABOUT 24 DEGREES C.THE PILOT STATED HE HAD NO MECHANICAL FAILURE AND ALL AIRPLANE SYSTEMS WERE OPERATING NORMALLY THOUGHOUT THE FLIGHT. THE SKID MARKS ON THE RUNWAY AND THE AIRPLANE BRAKE ROTORS INDICATED THAT THE LEFT BRAKE WAS APPLIED FROM TOUCH DOWN AND THE RIGHT BRAKE WAS ONLY APPLIED JUST PRIOR TO THE AIRPLANE DEPARTING THE RUNWAY. DURING AN INSPECTION OF THE AIRPLANE THE BRAKE SYSTEMS WERE FOUND TO BE BOTH SERVICED AND OPERATING. NO OTHER MECHANICAL FAILURES WERE NOTED DURING THE INSPECTION.
