## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

A WITNESS STATED THE PILOT HAD FERRIED GAS IN TO A REMOTE CABIN. THEN THE PILOT AND A PASSENGER DEPARTED THE FROZEN LAKE TO CHECK THE RIVER FOR OPEN HOLE, BECAUSE THEY HAD A TRAP LINE ON THE RIVER. AFTER ABOUT 30 MINUTES THE AIRCRAFT RETURNED AND WAS FLYING LOW AND SLOW. HE HEARD THE ENGINE REV UP AND LOOKED JUST AS THE AIRCRAFT WAS SPINNING TO THE GROUND. THE AIRCRAFT WAS APPROACHING TO LAND AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT.THE PILOT OF THE AIRCRAFT WAS NOT A CERTIFICATED PILOT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ANC12FA028](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ANC12FA028), Mar 31, 2012: Piper PA-18 (N7276D), Sleetmute, AK, substantial damage, 2 fatal. Probable cause: Operation of the airplane by a non-certificated pilot and his failure to maintain adequate airspeed and airplane control, which resulted in an aerodynamic stall.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
