## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT WAS CONDUCTING FLIGHT PRACTICE AND LANDINGS AT HIS HOME AIRPORT. THE STRIP HE WAS USING WAS A GRASSY AREA LOCATED JUST NORTH OF THE PAVED LANDING STRIP. WHEN CONDUCTING HIS LANDING, HE LANDED IN AN AREA WITH APPROXIMATELY 6 INCHES OF UNMOWED GRASS. THE AIRCRAFT CAME DOWN AND TOOK BACK OFF FOR A SHORT PERIOD. DURING ONE OF THE TOUCHDOWNS, THE RIGHT MAIN WHEEL ASSEMBLY SEPARATED FROM THE AIRCRAFT AND WAS FOUND A DISTANCE FROM THE FINAL AIRCRAFT RESTING POINT. ON HIS FINAL LANDING THE RIGHT MAIN GEAR DRAGGED IN THE DIRT APPROXIMATELY 8 FEET AND EVENTUALLY CAUGHT CAUSING THE AIRCRAFT TO FLIP OVER WITH THE AIRCRAFT ENDING UP UPSIDE DOWN AND THE NOSE POINTING TO THE EAST.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN12CA272](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN12CA272), Apr 27, 2012: Tucker-Hurni Starduster SA-300 (N4523), Vidalia, LA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The failure of the airplane’s right main landing gear due to a pre-existing fatigue crack and corrosion.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
