## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

FIRST FLIGHT OF THE DAY. PILOT CHECKED WX NIGHT BEFORE ACCIDENT. PILOT STATED HE OVER FLEW AIRPORT FROM HIS BASE LOCATED TO THE SOUTH, AND NOTICED WIND FROM NORTH. PILOT ELECTED TO LAND TO THE EAST BECAUSE HE THOUGHT THE WIND WAS WITHIN THE CAPABILITIES OF THE AIRCRAFT AND BECAUSE RWY 7 WAS THE WIDEST AND LONGEST RUNWAY. ON TOUCHDOWN AIRCRAFT GROUND LOOPED COLLAPSING RIGH LANDING GEAR AND DAMAGING RIGHT WING.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN12CA280](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN12CA280), May 8, 2012: Cessna A188 (N3557Q), Sterling, IL, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain directional control during landing. Contributing to the accident was the pilot's runway selection based on the wind conditions.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
